Gunshots were fired at the residence of the son of Lakshmi Narayan Mandir‘s head in the early hours of Wednesday in Surrey, Canada. Temple head Satish Kumar mentioned that 11 to 14 bullets were fired, and while the motive is unclear, he noted instances of extortion in the area.

Kumar suggested that the recent sale of his son’s insurance agency might have led to a mistaken belief in substantial funds.

Lakshmi Narayan Mandir’s leaders, including Kumar and his son, are prominent businesspersons in an area experiencing a surge in extortion attempts.

Recent police warnings highlighted extortion targeting business owners. While expressing concern, the temple council emphasized the need for evidence before making accusations. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Surrey department is investigating the incident, reporting no injuries but confirming damage consistent with bullet holes at the residence. The motive behind the attack is yet to be determined.
